In these days Yelkouan Shearwaters are about to lay their only egg and there is great excitement in the colony. Our ISPRA technicians, together with Ferdinando Corbi of "Gruppo Pontino Ricerche Ornitologiche", have inspected the coasts of the Ponzian archipelago in search of new colonies. The footage you see, taken with a thermal imaging camera, comes from the colonies of Ventotene where, thanks to the eradication of the rats, the "marzaiole" - the name given to these birds by the people of Ventotenese - will finally be able to complete reproduction without fear of the deadly incursions of these invasive predator.
