With great pleasure we publish the illustration created by the Canadian artist Kara Sievewright for the symposium "Gwaay. yaay k'aaysguuxan hla llgaay gwii sdiihlda - Restoring balance to the whole of the islands - Haida Gwaii Invasive Alien Mammal Management".
This is the way Kara Sievewright returned the story of "our" Paolo Sposimo who spoke at the Canadian conference. Paolo brought the experience of the projects that have occurred in recent years in many Italian islands to face invasive species. His contribution, entitled "Creating a vision for large scale conservation in Italy: building community buy-in", focused on the eradication of rats for the protection of Scopoli's shearwaters and Yealkouan shearwaters.
The focus of the symposium was the case of the Haida Gwaii Islands where a series of actions are underway to control the impact of different invasive mammal species on both local flora and fauna.
The symposium was organized by the Archipelago Management Board (AMB), Council of the Haida Nation, Canada Wildlife Service, British Columbia Parks, British Columbia Ministry of Forests, Landsand Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development Contacts, and Parks Canada.
At the links below this post you can access a lot of interesting material. For example, the videos of all the presentations and slides presented by the various international experts that have followed each other in a program full of content. And all the fantastic illustrations created by Kara Sievewright. An excellent idea to make the program of the Conference more communicative and attractive.
In addition to the artist Kara Sievewright, we want to thank all the organizers for the invitation and especially Stephanie Fung and Robyn Irvine.
