To celebrate Easter, here’s to you some images showing a pair of Scopoli’s shearwaters switching during the incubation of their unique and precious egg. Not before a tender exchange of effusions. The male is replaced by the female and it leaves the nest emitting the characteristic call that reminiscent of the cry of a newborn and that has originated the myth of the sirens.
The cave, which is located in Ventotene, is the same one in which we have followed in the last two years the hatch of two young shearwater: Ligea and Molpe. What’s gonna happen this year?
Thanks to the staff of the Ventotene and Santo Stefano Islands State Reserve and in particular to Sara Riello for the images.
