Today is World Migratory Bird Day and we celebrate it by showing you these extraordinary images coming from Ventotene, precisely from the nest where Ligea was born last year.
This year a pair of Scopoli’s shearwaters (maybe Ligea's parents? Who knows) has come back to nest in the same cavity and now we are waiting for the female to lay the egg, that one and precious egg that each shearwater pair produces during the breeding season.
Thanks to the collaboration with the State Nature Reserve of Ventotene and Santo Stefano we will follow the life of this pair hoping to see the growth of a Scopoli’s shearwater chick again this year.
On Saturday, 9 May 2020, people around the world will celebrate World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) – a global campaign dedicated to raising awareness of migratory birds and the need for international cooperation to conserve them. This year the theme of World Migratory Bird Day is “Birds Connect Our World” and was chosen to highlight the importance of conserving and restoring the ecological connectivity and integrity of ecosystems that support the natural cycles that are essential for the survival and well-being of migratory birds.
