“A review of mammal eradications on Mediterranean islands”: this is the title of the scientific article just published in Mammal Review, an influential international journal edited by the Mammal Society of London. The article is signed by Dario Capizzi, project manager of Life PonDerat, who examines all the eradication interventions carried out to date in Mediterranean islands, discussing successes, failures, open issues, and identifying future prospects.
The analysis of the international overview highlights the important work done in Italy and the achievements in terms of protection of species threatened by the presence of alien mammals, especially rats. In addition, the article highlights the innovative contribution of Life PonDerat: with pioneering interventions and strategies, this project opens the way to actions of great importance for the eradication of invasive alien species, prospecting significant benefits also for the people living on the islands.
